We couldn’t wait to open up the Cape this year. It was freezing, but as always, it felt like coming home after a long dark winter.
My parents made dinner together, which is weird. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them cook with each other before. I can’t say that it was a beautiful, harmonious scene, but the meal they pulled off was great.
My dad made Penne with Brussels Sprouts, Chile and Pancetta from the New York Times (of course). My mom made mustard greens, she’s the greens lady.
The pasta was really interesting in a totally unexpected way, aside from the fact that you might not think to combine pasta and brussels sprouts. At the table, you drizzle the pasta dish with lemon juice and then top with grated pecorino. It doesn’t seem right, but it works.

All of that lemon and pecorino business sounds 100% correct to me! Being part Mex I do love to finish everything with fresh squeezed lime so you got me. Viva el Cape!
Dad
Dearest Nina MAX,
Thanks for not saying mom & I nearly killed each other over this dinner. We have cooked together before with less conflict. We’ll have to figure it out for the next time. Love ya!
Rachel
That pasta sounds awesome. Cruciferous vegetables + smoked pork + pasta = awesomeness, made greater with a smidgen of red pepper flakes and lemon juice and cheese.
Morgan, you can cook for me ANYTIME!
Love all you Daly Murrays! Here’s to a delicious and delightful summer!

I REALLY like that you have a “cape meals” category. Perfect :)
