Here’s what I learned from tonight’s failed dinner:
1. When making Parmesan Chicken Goujons, it’s okay to use regular breadcrumbs instead of panko.
2. When making Parmesan Chicken Goujons, do not forget to grease the baking sheet!
3. When making Penne alla Vodka, do not substitute half and half for the heavy cream, it will curdle, leaving you with little white nerdles in your meant-to-be creamy sauce. And it doesn’t taste as good either.
4. Roasted Broccoli is hard to mess up.

That looks so good.

Still looks good for a failed dinner. we had sheperds pie that i made last week and froze half of, and some steamed broccolli.
Here’s what i learned: pre prepared and frozen sheperd’s pie, while delicious, tends to be extra watery from the vegetables having been frozen and then re-heated.
i also learned that tamari sauce is excellent on sheperd’s pie and re-enforces the diea that the irish chinese know that potatoes pair well with soy.

Thanks guys. It wasn’t terrible, and we certainly didn’t go hungry, but Penne alla Vodka can be so, so, good, when done properly.

Dearest daughter,
Not every meal can be a success. However, this is what I’ve learned in my past few years of cooking: don’t substitute a lesser ingredient… like 1/2 & 1/2 for heavy cream. If the recipe calls for a small red onion 1/2 a big onion will be fine. More is better in moderation. Watch out for fancy/trendy ingredients like panko or the molto trendy kale. They are good but not for/in everything. And finally not all recipes are great. Keep moving on. Lov’ya, PoP
P.S. I agree with Clover. It does look very good.
